The Mekong-ROK Cooperation Fund underscores a strong commitment to fostering cultural exchange and tourism initiatives, with a central focus on creating a community that prioritizes its people.
The framework aims to strengthen mutual awareness and understanding between the people of the Mekong countries and the Republic of Korea (ROK). This involves expanding educational endeavors, promoting tourism, facilitating people-to-people exchanges, and bolstering collaboration in cultural and sports domains.
An additional priority is the concerted effort to preserve and restore cultural heritage, coupled with joint initiatives to promote sustainable tourism in the Mekong region. Special attention is given to niche tourism areas such as agritourism, culinary tourism, and smart tourism.
Restore and preserve the rich cultural heritage sites of the Mekong, ensuring they stand as timeless treasures for future generations.
Empower the youth through an enriched education in culture and arts, fostering a vibrant future for the region's creative economy.
Collaborate in the development of cultural tourism, inviting everyone to explore, experience, and connect with the diverse tapestry of the Mekong.
Promote the growth of cultural and creative industries, nurturing innovation that transcends boundaries and inspires a global audience.
Strengthen the voices of cultural professionals by providing platforms for empowerment and fostering networks that amplify their impact.
Promote sustainable and smart tourism practices, encouraging responsible travel that leaves a positive imprint on the environment and local communities.
The Mekong region is among the world’s most visited travel destinations. As the tourism industries of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam (CLMTV) are helping promote economic growth, generate employment, and foster peaceful societies, their governments are increasing efforts to pursue a more balanced, collaborative, and sustainable tourism development.
