Capacity Building Project on development of statistics



A country’s statistical capacity is the ability to collect and disseminate reliable and up-to-date statistics that meet users' needs. The forth economic policy of Myanmar is to promote the quality of statistics and national statistical system. Only with quality, accurate and reliable statistics and information can provide inputs for evidence based policy making, decision and planning.  The statistical system of Myanmar is decentralized one. Central Statistical Organization (CSO) is Statistical Authority of Myanmar. CSO collects data in accordance with the Central Statistical Authority Act of 1952 the Central Statistical Authority Act is not relevant the current demand for the reliable statistics. So, CSO is drafting Myanmar Statistics Law and now the draft of Myanmar statistics Law has been finalized.  CSO is implementing National Strategy for Development of Statistics – NSDS to develop the national statistical system. CSO is the national coordinator for the implementing NSDS. NSDS identified 12 main statistical domains. They are:1) System of National Accounts, 2) Price statistics, 3) Industry, Tourism and Investment Statistics, 4) Agriculture and Rural Sector Statistics, 5) External Trade Statistics, 6) Population and demographic statistics, 7) Social, Gender and Labour Statistics, 8) Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, 9) Health Statistics, 10) Energy and Environment Statistics, 11) Education Statistics, 12) Geospatial Information.  Read more...
