Updates for May 2024 - Jul 2024 Kick-off Meeting with DONRE and relevant stakeholders in Can Tho (ISPONRE) On May 14, 2024 attended by Deputy Director General, DONRE Can Tho, Deputy Director, Environmental Protection Agency (DONRE), and Deputy Director General ISPONRE

The Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) organized a meeting with DONRE and relevant stakeholders in Can Tho to discuss the project work plan implemented in Can Tho. The meeting gathered the participation from DONRE/Environmental Protection Agency; Ninh Kieu District People Committees/Natural Resources and Environment Office, People Committees of Cai Khe Ward/ Natural Resources and Environment Office; and Department of Education and Training. 

The main project activities were discussed and the meeting successfully concluded with the agreement for project activities and stakeholders' support for the project implementation in Can Tho. Following the Kick-Off meeting, a series of follow-up meetings, surveys, and workshops were held with stakeholders to introduce the project, raise awareness, and brainstorm on the action plan and community agreement as a part of the preliminary field survey and discuss implementation plans for Bangkok’s subdistricts (ERIC, Chulalongkorn University). This meeting aimed to introduce the project and the tentative implementation plans to the relevant district offices and the selected community leaders. Dr. Sujitra Vassnadumrongdee (ERIC) detailed the community development project along the Ladprao Canal and the waste-free school in the Bang Khen and Lak Si districts (Bangkok). The project is carried out by the Environmental Research Institute Chulalongkorn University (ERIC) in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The meeting also managed to secure support from the district offices in Lak Si and Bang Khen for the development of district-level action plans for the project."

Meeting with City Governor and Waste Management Office- Battambang, Cambodia (RUPP, COMPOSTED)

Attended by COMPOSTED & Royal University of Phnom; Vice City Governor; Office Chief of Public Works and Transport, Environmental, Sanitation, and Public Order Office, Vice-office chief of Public Works and Transport, Environmental, Sanitation, and Public Order Office Penh , the meeting on June 20th, 2024 mwith the City Governor and the Waste Management Office to provide an overview of the project and seek support for its successful implementation. The meeting also discussed several points, including a proposed training workshop on plastic hotspots, optional CCTV installation locations, and collection of secondary data. During the meeting, tentative dates and locations for the Plastic Hotspot App training were discussed. Additionally, a site visit was conducted to assess the proposed locations for CCTV installations on the bridges along the Sangke River.

Site survey and Field visit with DONRE and Department of Road (National University of Laos)

On May 16th, 2024, the project team set out to identify suitable locations for installing CCTV along the Ngeum River. The TharNgon Bridge, TharNgon village, Xaythany district, Vientiane capital and the water station were selected for the CCTV setup. Later, the project team visited the site with representatives from DONRE, the water station, and the Department of Road (Ministry of Public Works and Transport) to discuss the installation. They provided the technical details to DONRE and the Department of Road and are currently awaiting a permit letter from the Department of Road to proceed with the CCTV installation at the TharNgon Bridge and water station. Meeting with local community to discuss of the activities at the project site and prepare for design to conduct the waste cleanup activity before install CCTV took place on 25th July 2024.

Workshop on ‘Improving the livelihood of riverine communities in Klong Lad Phrao and Zero-Waste Schools in Bang Khen District and Lak Si District’ at Mida Hotel Don Mueng airport, Thailand on July 17th, 2024

The workshop was jointly organized by Chulalongkorn University and the Asian Institute of Technology. It was aimed at sharing the insights on project's work plan, and knowledge dissemination on how to develop ideas, from needs or requirements, into actionable plans. The workshop also brought together representatives from two BMA district offices, Bang Khen and Lak Si. Amongst the participants were members from the Education, Community Development, and Waste Management sub-units.

Kickoff meeting between AIT and Terracycle Foundation - Zoom virtual meeting

A virtual meeting (July 25, 2024) took place between Terracycle and AIT Team to explore potential collaboration on installing CCTV systems at Terracycle's project sites. The discussion covered technical details such as camera specifications and maintenance needs, as well as data validation processes for monitoring plastic waste. It was proposed that the data collected be integrated with the MKCF dashboard for better management and analysis.
