  Myanmar

  04-Oct-2024

On September 16-17, 2024, the Pre-Documentary Film Incubator Workshop was held in Yangon, Myanmar, with financial support from the Mekong-ROK Cooperation Fund (MKCF). Organized by the National University of Arts and Culture and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture of Myanmar, the two-day event attracted 51 participants from five Mekong countries.

The workshop focused on the content and planning for the production of documentary films centered on traditional games and food in each country. Key topics discussed included budget allocation for project activities, trends in documentary filmmaking across different countries, the significance of language, and the preservation of local wisdom related to traditional games and food. Participants also explored techniques for creating documentaries on culinary traditions, proposal writing for documentaries, and impact assessment tools. Additionally, a half-day cultural tour of Yangon was included on the second day of the workshop.

This activity is part of a 13-month project titled “Mekong Creative Film Festival 2024 (Traditional Games and Foods)” (March 1, 2024 - April 1, 2025), which aims to:

  1. Utilize media to develop and share traditional games and foods in the Mekong region.
  2. Enhance the filmmaking skills of young filmmakers from Mekong countries.
  3. Preserve and promote mutual respect for the diverse cultural traditions and customs of the Mekong-ROK countries.
  4. Foster cultural cooperation and build mutual understanding and friendship among the youth of Mekong countries and the Republic of Korea.

At the end of the workshop, participants agreed on an action plan to produce a total of 10 films—five focusing on traditional games and five on traditional food across all five countries.
