Impact of Migration on Rural Development with Special Emphasis on Agriculture of Mon State, Myanmar



In Mon State, like other areas of Mekong Region, migration is gaining momentum and young adults move to other nearby areas especially Thailand. Agriculture sector, a major economic activity of the rural area, is declining due to impacts of migration such as labor shortage, lack of interest in agriculture, etc. Productivity of crops is low in agriculture due to lack of interest. Some land are left as vacant land that is not used for crop cultivation due to low economic return and they are still lack in knowledge on market and value added agriculture products.
